ABSTRACT

SUGANDA. Supply chain complexity and actor contestation in affecting broiler
chicken price fluctuations in Indonesia (supervised by Darmawan Salman, Syahdar
              Baba, dan Imam Mujahidin Fahmid)

Background. The broiler industry, both in the world and in Indonesia, has become a
megafarm power that forms vertical integration, that integration from upstream to
downstream. What is unique in Indonesia is that the broiler industry has two integrations,
namely vertical and horizontal integration. Aim. This research is to identify actors who
are contesting the broiler chicken supply chain; analyze fluctuation and disparity in broiler
and carcass prices before, during and after Covid-19 pandemic; and modeling the
integrated broiler chicken supply chain in Indonesia. Methode. The type of research is
descriptive-quantitative. Result. The research results show that actor contestation in the
broiler chicken supply chain arena is controlled by integrator companies due to ownership
of DOC FS, feed input sources, and control of downstreaming and forms an oligopolistic
market structure, while actor contestation in the broiler chicken market arena is
determined based on the competition market structure. The prices are formed based on
the strength of each actor depending on the use of economic capital by supply chain
actors and the use of social capital in the form of information networks and networks of
market actors. Fluctuations in the price of broiler chickens and carcasses before and
during the Covid-19 pandemic in the five study areas were in the medium category, and
after the pandemic almost all areas have fluctuations were low. The disparity in prices of
broiler chickens and carcasses before, during and after the pandemic between regions
shows a coefficient value of b1 < 1 or indicating did not significant disparity. The price and
quantity of DOC directly have a positive and significant effect on the supply chain and of
the broiler chicken business efficiency. The supply chain directly has a positive and
significant effect on the broiler chicken business efficiency in Indonesia. The supply chain
is able to partially mediate the price and quantity of DOC production on the broiler chicken
businesses efficiency in Indonesia. The Supply Chain Management Model that is built is
a supply chain system that is currently running which is implemented in the form of a
model. After being tested by estimating and validating the model using the Simulation
Equation Model (SEM), it shows that the supply chain management model meets the
rules of Goodness and Fit. The impact of government policy on reducing GPS imports in
2024 has both positive and negative impacts. The negative impact occurred on
endogenous variables such as a decrease in the number of GPS FFI and GPSFPI, as
well as a decrease in LB in CIF and CD. The positive impact of this policy is an increase
in several endogenous variables between 1% – 8.9%. Conclusion. Fluctuations in
livebird prices are not only influenced by the supply and demand balance but also the
complexity of the broiler chicken supply chain and the contestation of the actors involved
              in it.
